Joseph's Brother in Eygpt-Genesis Chapter 42:1-38

In the midst of the crisis in Egypt, Joseph's brothers arrived from Canaan, seeking to buy food, as the famine severely affected their land also. They did not recognize Joseph and he did not reveal himself to them. He dealt with his brothers largely through the language of commerce. Joseph is a victim of abuse, violated and abandoned by those he had trusted. His anger and bitterness had to be expressed when his brothers unexpectedly fell into his hand. Yet when the truth was revealed the other side of Joseph could emerge, including the faith that had sustained him. His brothers were jealous of him and sold him into slavery. He was taken to Egypt and eventually became steward to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh's officials. Potiphar's wife tried unsuccessfully to seduce him and after false accusations were levelled at Joseph he was imprisoned. When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him. Joseph had a dream, and when he told to his brothers, they hated him all the more. Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons because he was the child of his old age. And he made him an elaborately embroidered coat. When his brothers realized that their father loved him more than them, they grew to hate him-they wouldn't even speak to him.
