The Oath of God- Genesis Chapter 24:1-67

Jesus summarizes the teaching: "You shall not swear falsely but shall perform" your oath to the Lord (Matt.5:33). Disciples must keep their word, especially when others depend on them, even if circumstances change or oath keeping brings real loss. No one should break vows unless keeping them requires sin. Again, you have heard that it was said to those of old, "You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oath to the Lord." But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God's throne; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great king. When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it. He has no pleasure in fools: fulfill your vow. It is better not to vow than to make a vow and not fulfill it. Do not let your mouth lead you into sin. Jesus tells his listeners in Matthew 5:34 "to not swear oaths " and in here presents example of swearing oaths. In context, this passage refers not to the modern understanding of cursing or using foul language, but rather, the act of swearing oaths and making promises.

What are the three Oaths of God?

Why/What are these three Oaths?

One,that Israel should not go up (to the land)in a wall (i.e. en masse,RaShi interprets:forcefully)

Two, the Holy One adjured Israel not to rebel against the nation of the world

Three, the Holy One adjured the nations that they would not oppress Israel too much.

Jacob Vow-Genesis 28:20-22 And Jacob vowed a vow , saying: "If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go (walk), and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, so that I come back to my father's house in peace, then shall the Lord be my God, and this stone, which I have set up a pillar.
